Robert Labarr

Robert H. LaBarr of Liberty, NY, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s residence, surrounded by family on Saturday September 29, 2018.  He was 89.

The son of the late William F. and Lena Gerow LaBarr, he was born December 14, 1928 in Liberty, NY.

He was a man who worked hard all his life providing for his family.  A loyal and dependable man with a strong work ethic, he was always on time and willing to work many extra hours to get a job done.  He was knowledgeable in many trades, including auto and heavy equipment repair, plumbing, electric, welding, and carpentry; making him an asset to his employers.

During his life, Robert had worked several jobs in the Liberty area including operating an automobile garage/gas station, he was a truck driver for Pshonick Sand & Gravel, he performed electrical work for Chet Slaver, an oil burner repairman for Frank Porter, and a heavy equipment mechanic for George Asthalter and finally retiring from the Town of Liberty Highway Department.

He was always willing to help a friend or family in need.

Robert was a member of the Liberty Archery Club. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, flying and dancing.  He built and raced old stock cars at Grahamsville.  He was a former member of the Liberty Elks Lodge # 1545 and a member of the I.O.O.B.

Survivors include his wife, Aline LaBarr; his daughter, Jean LaBarr of Liberty, NY; his son, Robert C. LaBarr and his wife Christine of Napanoch, NY; his sisters-in-law, Grace Weigand of Swan Lake, NY and Anne Crist of Liberty, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, William LaBarr and Roy LaBarr; and two sisters, Marie Fisk and Mary LaBarr.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 11AM to 1 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 1 PM in the funeral home.  The Rev. Bridgette LeConey will officiate.

Burial at a later date will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Liberty, NY.

Robert’s family would like to express their sincere thanks to all of the nurses and health care aides including Hospice that provided comfort and assistance during this difficult time.
