Robert G. Milite, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012. He was 73 years old. Son of the late George Milite and Teresa (Casserly) Milite, he was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 2, 1938.
Robert ("Bob") was a graduate of Liberty Central School and had Associate Degrees from Orange County Community College and Sullivan County Community College. Bob was a veteran of the United States Army and, while stationed in France, married his high school sweetheart, Therese ("Terry") Bitjeman.
Bob retired from the New York State Liquor Authority after 30 years as a Senior Investigator. He worked primarily in Manhattan and the New York City suburbs. As part of an undercover investigation, Bob was interviewed by MIke Wallace for a 60-minute segment that aired on national television.
Bob was one of the founders of and a participant in the Liberty Parks and Recreation Committee and the Liberty Softball League He served as a Liberty Library Trustee, was a member of the Town of Liberty Planning Board and he was one of three Sullivan County Police Commissioners. In his retirement years, Bob was the owner and operator of ARMCO Liquor License Services.
Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Terry Milite, and his sons, Dean Milite of Boston, MA and Michael Milite of Parksville, NY. Bob was the proud grandfather of Audrey Milite of Boston, MA. and twin grandsons Jeremy and Jordan Milite of Woodstock, NY. Bob was an avid sports fan and he took great pleasure in attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Bob is also survived by his sister, Mary Newman and her husband, Randy of Clearwater, Florida and a brother, George Milite and his wife Maureen of Bronxville, New York. He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Milite of Deltona, Florida.
Visitation and the funeral service were private. Monsignor Edward Straub officiated. Burial will military honors were made in the Sullivan County Veteran's CEmetery Sunset Lake Road, Liberty, NY.
Memorial contributions can be made in Robert's memory to the Sullivan County ASPCA or to the charity of one's choice.
