Robert J. “Jack” Sherwood of Livingston Manor, NY, a retired Road Maintenance Supervisor for the Sullivan County Department of Public Works and a lifelong area resident, died Friday September 1, 2017 at the Roscoe Regional Rehab. & Residential Health Care Facility, Roscoe, NY. He was 85.
The son of the late Leonard “Pete” and Frances Husch Sherwood, he was born May 16, 1932 in Livingston Manor, NY.
Jack proudly served Our Country in the US Army; he was a member of the Lester White American Legion Post; a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Liberty, NY; he was a 57 year member and past chief of the Livingston Manor Fire Department; a member and past president of the Sullivan County Volunteer Firemen’s Association; a life member of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Fireman’s Association; a Red Vest; a member of the Shin Creek Hunting Club; a former member of the Livingston Manor Rotary Club; and he had worked for eight years at the Sherwood Mill before working and retiring from Sullivan County DPW.
Survivors include his daughter, Erika Leone and her husband Anthony of Cochecton, NY; his son, Craig Sherwood of Livingston Manor, NY; one granddaughter, Monique Fernstrom and her husband Bradley of Greenwood, IN; two great grandsons, Christian and Steele; two sisters in law, Edna York of Liberty, NY and Rebecca Sherwood of Livingston Manor, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen B. Sherwood on July 26, 2013; one son, Erik Karl Sherwood; two brothers, Clarence and James Sherwood.
Visitation will be Monday, September 4, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Firematic services will be conducted by the Livingston Manor Fire Department on Monday at 7 PM in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday September 5, 2017 at 11 AM in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Chestnut St., Liberty, NY. The Rev. Johanna Andritz will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be in the Orchard Street Cemetery, Livingston Manor, NY.
