Samuel Kurpil

Samuel J. Kurpil, Jr. of Liberty, NY, a professional baker and graduate of Dunwoody Culinary Institute in Minneapolis MN and a lifelong area resident, died peacefully with his family present on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. He was 52.

The son of Samuel Sr. and Frances DeFilippi Kurpil, he was born September 14, 1963 in Liberty, NY.

Sam was a communicant and a former altar boy at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Liberty, NY; he was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Liberty, NY; and a member of the MS Society active in fund raising events. Sam was a former member of the Liberty High School track and field team. He mostly enjoyed family gatherings , local history and the outdoors .He was always generous with his gifts and was a loyal son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was the former owner of the Shady Grove Gift Store in Liberty, NY.

Survivors include his parents, Samuel Sr. and Frances DeFilippi Kurpil of Liberty, NY; four sisters, Julie Burns and her husband Gene of Liberty, NY, Cynthia Gieger and her husband Stefan of Jeffersonville, NY, Christina Jones and her husband Donny of Jeffersonville, NY, and Jennifer Diehl and her husband Thomas of Cochecton, NY: one brother, Michael Kurpil of Denver, CO; and beloved nieces, and nephews, Gene , Kathleen and Megan Burns, Andrew, Matthew, Rudy, Veronica, and Cameron Gieger, and Garrett, Shelby and Justin Diehl, and many cousins and friends especially his beloved cousin Anthony Kurtz and his best friend Robert Friedland and godchildren Jake and Marley Friedland.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday, September 25, 2015 at St. Aloysius Church, Livingston Manor, NY with music written and played by his sisters and niece which included remembrances of Sam's life.

Burial was in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Liberty, NY.
