MR.SAMUEL KURPIL OF THE "KURPIL FAMILY FIDDLERS" 

Mr. Samuel Kurpil, a life long resident of Liberty passed away at his home on September 23, 2024 surrounded by his loving wife Frances of 69 years of marriage and his loving children. Samuel was born on Aprl 20, 1928 in Parksville, NY to his parents Iwan and Mary Warcholiak Kurpil where he grew up on his beloved family farm and was one of thirteen children. 

Samuel graduated from Liberty High School and went on to serve at the US Naval Station in Anacostia, DC where he received Advanced Undersea Training and proudly served his country on the USS Hugh Purvis battleship as a 1ª class Electronics Technician. He received the WW2 Victory Medal and Good Conduct medals and upon completion he attended the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He returned to Liberty were he worked for many years as a local Electrician, Samuel was recently honored with a beautiful Veterans Honorary salute at his home for his service from 1947-1951 with dozens of local veterans from all branches of military service attending where he received his honorary silver pin by his son-in- law Navy veteran Gene Burns Sr. 

Samuel was known as a humble, gentle man who loved his family and spent time with them sharing his love of golfing, gardening, cross country camping, Sunday drives, apple cider making at the ole North Branch Cider mill, sauerkraut making for the root cellar crock, and filling the house with music. In the 1950"s, Samuel formed a popular local band with his brothers called "The Kurpil Ranch Boys" and even recorded songs with Gerry Recording in Liberty. After retirement he formed the popular "Kurpil Family Fiddlers Band" with his daughters who entertained throughout the tri-county region for many years. 

Samuel is survived by his loving wife, Frances Defilippi Kurpil; sisters, Eva Sasnowitz of NC and Josie Devoe of Livingston Manor, NY. He was predeceased by his five brothers Steve, Peter, Andrew, Charles, Nicholas and their wives and also sisters Katherine Somesia, Anne Vuono, Rase Brown, and Helen Mudry and his parents, Iwan and Mary Kurpil and mother-in-law, Gladys Roosa DeFilippi. 

He is also survived by his children and their families: Julie and Gene Burns of Liberty and their children Gene and Claire Burns, Kathleen and Thadeus Brandt and great grandchildren Austin and Caelyn, Megan and Zachary Cody: Cynthia and Stefan Gieger of Jeffersonville, NY and their children Andrew and Emily and great grandchildren Aaron, Hannah, Chloe, Lily, and Micah; Matthew and Eliza and great grandchildren Hans and Winfred, and grandchildren Rudy, Veronica, and Cameron and also his daughters and spouses; Christina and Donald Jones, Jennifer and Thomas Diehl and their son Garrett; his son Michael and wife Lesli and predeceased by his beloved son Samuel Kurpil Jr. 

The family will attend a private Mass of Christian Burial; Samuel will receive his military burial honor's and salute where family will gather at St. Peters Cemetery in Liberty, NY. 

Memorial contributions in Sam’s name may be made in memory of his son, Samuel to Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, 375 Kings Highway North, Suite B, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 US or to St. Aloysius Church, PO Box 206, Livingston Manor, NY 12758.
