Steven P. Luty

Steven Preston Luty, 74, of Callicoon, NY, passed away at home on March 29, 2025. Born on April 18, 1950, in Jackson, Michigan, Steve was the beloved son of the late Francis Jean Preston Hubbell and Mitchell Luty. He grew up in Albion, Michigan, where he graduated from Albion High School in 1968.

While in high school, Steve was on the swimming, diving, and golf teams. He was a state medalist in both diving and golf. He was a natural thespian who participated in the school plays. Steve took his extracurriculars seriously whether it was sports or being the life of the party.

Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life and best friend, Margaret (Peg) Luty, in October 1972. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

In 1980, Steve earned a degree in Turf Grass Management from Michigan State University. His passion for golf and landscape development led him and Peg to Denver, Colorado, where he worked for the PGA Tour and began their family. In 1985, they moved to Callicoon, NY, where Steve played an instrumental role in the construction of the Villa Roma Golf Course, leaving a lasting mark on the local golfing community.

Steve was an avid golfer, playing a round with him was always a memorable adventure. He was a dedicated member of the Allan Milk VFW Post 7276, where he served as quartermaster. Steve was the Delaware Valley golf coach and the scorebook keeper for the basketball team. In the early years, Steve was the Cub Master for Pack 113 and the umpire for Little League.

Steve made friends wherever he was. Those who know him have stories to tell. His kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the memories he created.

Above all, he treasured his time with his family. He is survived by his devoted wife Peg, his loving children Bradley (Michelle) Luty and Tera (John) DiTommaso, and his most special friend and granddaughter, Vita Rose DiTommaso, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He is also survived by his brother Michael (Judy) Luty of Port St. Lucie, Florida; sisters-in-law Terri (Bob) Metcalf of Des Moines, Iowa, and Vicki Konkle of Albion, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews who were always guaranteed a fun time with Uncle Steve.

Steve was predeceased by his stepfather, Buddy Hubbell, in-laws Floyd and Mary Ann Smock, and brother-in-law, Ted Konkle.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at Harris Funeral Home in Roscoe, NY. The family will receive guests Friday, April 4, 2025 from 12 Noon to 1 PM with a short service at 1:00 PM, followed by a reception at The Rockland House.
