Susan C. Berka

Susan C. Berka of Liberty, NY, passed away peacefully at her home by her husband’s side Tuesday, July 16, 2024. She was 63. She was born December 10, 1960 to her parents Edward J. and Catherine McHugh Lane, in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from high school at St. Josephs in Brooklyn in 1978 and went on to get her associates degree in finance and had a 35 year career in the banking and financial services industry. She was a branch manager for HSBC Bank and a Senior loan officer at M&T Bank including financial accounts and mortgages. In 1992 Sue married Tim Berka and they began their life together in Hicksville, NY and had two beautiful daughters Kasey and Jessica where they built their life together. Susan loved to frequent the local Long Island malls with her daughters and attend their volleyball tournaments. Susan was an active member of Holy Family Church in her community. She loved BLT's, the Jersey Shore, sunbathing, palm trees, daisies, ice teas and sea breezes. She cherished her relationships with her daughters whom she was always very proud of. She made sure to give them their wings to fly.

Sue and Tim retired to the Catskills in Liberty NY in 2018, where she became a Communicant of St. Peter's Church. She enjoyed sitting on the porch with her husband, drinking her Dunkin’ Iced Tea and watching the sunset over the mountain.

Survivors include her husband, Timothy J. Berka ; two daughters, Kasey Vendemia and her husband Vinnie of Charleston, SC and Jessica Berka of Charleston, SC; one sister, Rosemary Wehr and her husband Jan of DE; sister-in-law, Deborah Lane of NJ, brother in law Richard Berka, sister in law Trish Espinal and brother in law Michael, brother in law Chris Berka and sister in law Liesel, and Mother in law Marie Berka as well as many nieces and nephews throughout the East Coast. She was predeceased by her father, Edward, her mother Catherine, and by her twin brother, Edward Lane.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 4-7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 22, 2024 at 11 AM in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church 264 North Main Street, Liberty, NY. Father Edward Bader will officiate.

Dignified cremation will be provided by Harris Crematorium, LLC.

Memorial contributions in Susan's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
