Theresa Peck

Theresa Socorro Marquez Peck, 86 of Brushton, NY, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on September 14, 2015 after a lengthy illness. She passed at the Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, NY surrounded by family.

Born in Los Angeles, California on July 11, 1929, she was the daughter of Anastacio and Rosa Figueroa Marquez. Her parents predeceased her.

Theresa attended The Cabrini Villa Catholic Convent in Burbank, California, then attended school in Mexico. She was united in marriage to Daniel Padilla in 1946. The marriage ended in divorce. On April 26, 1962, she was united in marriage to Burton L. Peck, III in Malone, NY at the Centenary United Methodist Church. He survives.

She was employed as a secretary at Autonetics in Downey, California in the early 1960's after which time she became a full time home maker. Later, she worked as a secretary for her husband's insurance business from 1984 until 1986. Among her hobbies was walking, crocheting, and reading.

Theresa was active in the community and was instrumental in implementing a Neighborhood Watch Program in Brushton in the 1990's. During the Viet Nam War, she coordinated a program to send care packages to the troops stationed there. She again became active during the first Gulf War in the care package project. She had a great love for the youth of the community and often worked to encourage them to be the best they could be. She was also a big supporter of the NY State Police, law enforcement, and of course, our veterans of the armed forces.

In addition to her husband, she is survived and lovingly remembered by her four sons and three daughters-in-law; Daniel B. (Karen) Padilla of Westville, NY, Richard (Yvonne) Padilla of Riverside, CA, Edward R. Padilla of Reed Springs, Missouri, and Burton L. Peck IV (Kimberly) of Brushton, NY, as well as a daughter, Saundra Tefft and her husband James Tefft, of Bellevue, Nebraska. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and several great, and great-great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 11 AM in the United Methodist Church, Washington Street, Brushton, NY. The Rev. John Puthuparampil will officiate. A respite will follow in the fellowship hall of the church. Interment of her cremains will be Saturday afternoon at 1 PM in Sunnyside Cemetery, Brushton, NY.
