Thomas Francis Gillis of Roscoe, NY, a retired engineer and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Regional Hospice and Home Care Center, Danbury, CT. He was 86.
The son of the late Thomas H. and Eva Jadick Gillis, he was born July 10, 1928 in Long Island City, NY.
Tom proudly served Our County in the United States Navy; he was a communicant Gate of Heaven Church, Roscoe, NY; a member of the Catskill Fly Fishing Center, Livingston Manor, NY; and an avid fly tyer.
Survivors include his son, Thomas Michael Gillis of Winsted, CT; two brothers, Rev. Mr. Eugene J. Gillis of Kernersville, NC and Rev. Joseph Gillis and his wife Ann of South Canaan, CT; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Jacqueline Corrigan Gillis on August 1, 1995; his second wife, Rita Byrne Gillis on April 2, 2002; and two brothers, Robert Emmett Gillis and Theodore William Gillis.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 2-4 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 11 AM in the Gate of Heaven Church, Highland Ave., Roscoe, NY. Father Edward Bader will officiate.
Burial will be in the Cooks Falls Cemetery, Cooks Falls, NY.
Memorial contributions in Tom's name may be made to the St. Aloysius Church, PO Box 206, Livingston Manor, NY 12758 or to the Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
