Thomas “Tommy” Jennings Canonico, age 27, of Tullahoma, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023.
He was born on February 12, 1996, in Shelbyville. He is survived by his father, Domenic Canonico, sister, Heather Canonico, grandfather, Thomas Edwards, and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tommy was predeceased by his mother, Toni Edwards.
Those who knew Tommy best will remember him for his heart of gold, his curiousness, and his strength. Tommy was a 2014 graduate of Shelbyville Central High School. He was a phenomenal baseball player, earning 4 Varsity Letters as a catcher and feared batter. He earned his associate’s degree from Motlow College, where he graduated with honors. Tommy had many hobbies and loved to learn new things. He enjoyed reading, biking, hiking, hunting, playing disc golf, and spending time with his dad and sister.
Tommy was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 20 and fought a long, hard battle against this challenging mental illness. Despite these difficulties and many setbacks, he never stopped striving to be the best man that he could be. He constantly demanded more of himself and fought hard against the illness. He is a symbol of strength to all those who fight this terrible disease.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Graveside services and burial will be Friday, September 1, 2023 at 1 PM in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs, NY.
