Thomas Mcnellis

Thomas E. McNellis of Liberty, NY a timber framer, teacher and longtime area resident died Thursday, September 15, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was 69.

The son of the late John F. McNellis, DDS and Eileen M. Sullivan McNellis, he was born November 14, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois.

Thomas was an accomplished artist and excellent timber framer. He was an avid backpacking traveler in Latin and South America and finished his career as an exceptional ESL teacher for Sullivan County BOCES Adult Program. He was well loved and appreciated by his students.

Big spirited with a contagious sense of humor, he made everything fun for family and friends who loved spending time with him at the family’s self-built timber frame home in Claryville.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 39 years, Chereen Beauchamp-Nobbs McNellis, at home; one daughter, Elaine M. McNellis and her boyfriend James Pugh, Jr. of Kiamesha Lake, NY; one son, Charles R. McNellis of Liberty, NY; one brother, Patrick McNellis, MD and his wife Mary of Naperville, IL; two sisters, Clare Mitchell and her husband August of Phoenix, AZ and Laura Zuzully and her husband Daniel of Geneva, IL; and his sister-in-law Nancy Lennon of Chicago, IL. He is predeceased by his brother John F. McNellis, MD; his sister Mary McNellis Andries; his sister Eileen M. McNellis and his brother-in-law, Richard E. Beauchamp-Nobbs.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:30 PM in the Harris Funeral Home West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 6:30 PM in the funeral home. William Burrows will officiate. Masses are appreciated.
