Valentine Hessinger

Valentine "Val" Gordon Hessinger of Callicoon Center, NY, a retired teacher for Delaware Valley and Jeffersonville Central School Districts and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, August 14, 2015 at Bethany Village, Bethany, PA. He was 86.

The son of the late Frederick and Lena Laszig Hessinger, he was born July 24, 1929 in Liberty, NY.

Val proudly served Our Country in the US Army from 1951 to 1953; he was 70 year member of the Callicoon Center Fire Department - Station # 64; and a member of the United Reformed Church, Youngsville, NY. He had worked for many years and retired as an accountant. Val enjoyed spending time with his family at Anawanda Lake.

Survivors include his daughters, Anne Brewer and her husband Greg of Parsons, KS, Lori Benefiel and her husband Rudy of Orlando, FL, and Michele Brockner and her husband Gary of Callicoon Center, NY; their mother, Mary Catherine Hessinger; six grandchildren, Isaac Brewer and his wife Penny, Mallory Brewer, Allison Brewer, Elliott Brewer, Megan Brockner, and Caitlin Brockner; his brother, Arthur Hessinger and his wife Helen of Callicoon Center, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

Val's family would like to thank everyone at Bethany Village and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for all of their care and comfort.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY. Firematic services will be conducted at 7 PM in the funeral home.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 10 AM in the United Reformed Church, Youngsville, NY. The Rev. Gerald Wondra will officiate.

Burial with military honors will be in the Callicoon Center Cemetery, Callicoon Center, NY.

Memorial contributions in Val's name may be made to the Callicoon Center Fire Department, PO Box 144, Callicoon Center, NY 12724 or to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Dr., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
