Valerie A. Meyers

Valerie A. Meyers of Liberty, NY, a long time area resident, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025 at her home. She was 61. 

The daughter of Carmen T. Mayenzet and the late Victor C. Meyers, she was born July 6, 1963 in Queens, NY. 

Valerie had a deep love for Sullivan County. Her family put down roots in Liberty when she was a little girl of seven. She would spend the rest of her life in her childhood home there, a 1904 Victorian that she lovingly restored with her husband. Valerie was a creative spirit who enjoyed art and photography, often drawing her artistic inspiration from Sullivan County’s natural beauty. She loved gardening, trading cuttings of unique plants with relatives and friends, and planting flowers in downtown Liberty with her daughter and a crew of neighborhood kids. 

Valerie was both knowledgeable and passionate about health and wellness. She spent years working as a Nutrition Coach, many of them at New Age Health Spa in Neversink, NY. Later she went on to work independently, creating customized nutrition plans and developing recipes. This gave her the ability to spend more time where she was happiest, at home with her family. 

She is survived by her loving husband of over 40 years, Robert W. Van Harlingen, at home; her mother, Carmen Mayenzet of Youngsville, NY; one daughter, May Meyers of Liberty, NY; one brother, Arthur Meyers of Hernandez, NM; and the rest of her beloved family; sisters-in-law, future son-in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
