Vera Viola Gorr

Vera Viola Gorr, a lifelong area resident passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the Care Center at Sunset Lake, Liberty, NY. She was 87.

The daughter of the late Morris and Marie Robertson Hyzer, she was born August 6, 1936 in Liberty, NY.

Vera had worked as a waitress at Howard Johnson's and Ted's Restaurant. She was a CNA and also worked at Sullivan County Community College. 

Vera absolutely loved to dance and listen to country music. She loved cooking and baking; her homemade cinnamon buns were like no other. She raised four children and spent the majority of her life surrounded by her kids, grandkids and great grandchildren. Her family absolutely adored her and are going to miss her very much. Her home was everyone's home; filled with love, laughter and great food; you never left with an empty stomach. To know Vera was to know love.

Survivors include one son, Ricky Gorr of Grahamsville, NY; one daughter Wanda Leight and her husband Doug of Neversink, NY; seven grandchildren Kathleen (Quintin), Heather, Krystle (Mitch), Christopher, Becca, Daniel, and Wyatt; Great grandchildren, Maddy, Quintin Jr., Callie, Hazel and Raegan. Two brothers, Kenneth Hyzer and Alfred Hyzer. One sister Marie Bassett; along with many nieces, nephews, and other grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Philip Gorr; three children; Robin Gorr, Randy Gorr, and Alan Gorr; and companion Denny Gray.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 10 AM - 12 Noon in the Harris Funeral Home West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY.  

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 12 Noon in the funeral home.  Pastor Joseph LeConey will officiate.

Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery Cox Road, White Sulphur Springs, NY.

Memorial contributions can me made in Vera's name to a charity of ones choice.
