Walter Vincent Maus of Roscoe, NY, a retired carpenter for Local #225 in Liberty, NY and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Roscoe Regional Rehabilitation and Residential Health Care Facility Roscoe, NY. He was 92.
The son of the late John and Bessie Kinne Maus, he was born August 10, 1919 in Cooks Falls, NY.
Walter proudly served Our Country in the US Army during World War II; he was a member of the United Church of Roscoe, NY; a member of Cross Mountain Hunting Club in Turnwood, NY; a member of the Carines Hill Hunting Club in Roscoe, NY; a member and a past chief and past assistant chief of the Rockland Hose Co. #1; and a life member of the Harold Wood VFW Post # 5911 in Roscoe, NY.
Walter was an avid hunter, fisherman, and a lover of nature.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean M. "Dede" Ward of Roscoe, NY; one grandson, Jeffery A. Ward of Roscoe, NY; and one granddaughter, Grace Ruth Ann Ward of Roscoe, NY; one sister, Bernice Maus Mann of Liberty, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Grace Mealie Maus; and three brothers, Don Maus, Ed Maus, and Gerald Maus.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY.
Firematic services will be Wednesday at 7 PM in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 11 AM in the United Church of Roscoe, 2 Church St., Roscoe, NY. The Rev. David Collins will officiate.
Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe, NY.
