Walter Smith

Walter O. Smith of Liberty, NY, retired owner of Walter Smith Appliance Repair, and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility, Liberty, NY. He was 86.

The son of the late Edsall and Moyer Durland Smith, he was born August 12, 1926 in Hurleyville, NY.

Walter was a member, for over 50 years, of the Liberty Truck and Hose Company #2; he was a former member of Liberty Elks #1545; and a member of the Red Horse Hunting Club, Claryville, NY.

Survivors include his wife Edna H. Fries Smith, at home; three sons, Stephen Smith and his wife Kathi of Neversink, NY, Michael Smith of Liberty, NY, and Alan Smith and his wife Susan of New Zealand; and four grandsons, Christopher, Matthew, Zane, and Zachary.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 2-4 PM in the Harris Funeral Home West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 17, 2012 at 11 AM in the funeral home. The Rev. John Thomason will officiate.

Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Cold Spring Road, Liberty, NY.

Memorial contributions in Walter's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
