William Iii

William C. Covert, III of Roscoe, NY, a long time area resident, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. He was 82.

The son of the late William C. Covert, II and Virginia Twaddell Covert Kernochan, he was born October 26, 1932 in Roscoe, NY.

Bill graduated from Roscoe Central School and immediately joined the US Navy along with several of his buddies. He served very proudly on the battleship USS Missouri during the Korean Conflict.

After finishing his military service, Bill joined IBM and worked for 35 plus years in the Kingston, NY and Fishkill, NY facilities. He retired in August 1992 as an Engineering Information Technical Analyst and shortly afterward returned to his hometown and his home at Tennanah Lake.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting, fishing, sailing his Sunfish along the beaches in Connecticut and keeping bees. His love for gardening he inherited from his grandmother, Maria Twaddell and he gave most of his plentiful harvest to his friends and neighbors.

Survivors include two daughters, Debbie M. Hall of Newburgh, NY, and Wendy C. Covert of Roscoe, NY; one grandson, Michael Chumas of Newburgh, NY; and one granddaughter, Aubrey De Hall of Newburgh, NY; one great grandson, Daniel Beck and one great granddaughter, Ella Chumas; one sister, Ruth Hendrickson of Roscoe, NY; three nephews Joel Hendrickson of Scottsville, NY, Darrell Hendrickson of Walden, NY and William Zeilman and his wife Carol of Groton, CT; two nieces, Linda Ryan and her husband Kevin of Manasquan Park, NJ and Randie Folwell and her husband Michael of Wallkill, NY; and many cousins, great nephews and great nieces.

He was predeceased by his son, William C. Covert, IV in 1993; his sister, Virginia Watson in 1969; his nephew Glenn Hendrickson in 2001; and his aunt Vera Nannery on Dec. 21, 2014.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 26, 2015 from 1-3 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY.

Funeral services will be Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 3 PM in the funeral home. The Rev. Joanne Utley will officiate.

Burial with military honors will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe, NY.
