William J. Smith of Livingston Manor, NY, a retired refrigeration technician and a lifelong area resident died Friday, November 28, 2014 at his home. He was 89.
The son of the late James and Alice Smith, he was born September 23, 1925 in Livingston Manor, NY. Except for his time in the United States Air Force during WWII he has always lived in Livingston Manor.
William had worked for several major companies and retired from the Concord Hotel, Kiamesha Lake, NY; he was a member of the Monticello Elks Lodge # 1544.
He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Roser of Livingston Manor, NY; two grandsons, Christopher Roser of Livingston Manor, NY and Michael Pierpoint of So. Fallsburg, NY; seven great grandchildren, Michael, Alexandria, and Jasmine Pierpoint of Stockdale, PA, and Ariela, Emily, Gavin, and Seth Pierpoint of Livingston Manor, NY; two sisters, Alice Bose and Doris Roberts both of Livingston Manor, NY; and two brothers, John Smith of White Sulphur Springs, NY and James Smith of Monticello, NY.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanette Decker Smith; one daughter, Dixie Lee Pierpoint; and his grandson, Matthew Pierpoint.
Bill was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was also a caring and generous neighbor and friend. He was the unofficial Mayor and Fire Chief of Deckertown.
A memorial service will held in the Spring.
